16. Machine learning for spatially varying data
Sammanfattning : Many physical quantities around us vary across space or space-time. An example of a spatial quantity is provided by the temperature across Sweden on a given day and as an example of a spatio-temporal quantity we observe the counts of the corona virus cases across the globe. LÄS MER
17. Reconstruction of Past European Land Cover Based on Fossil Pollen Data : Gaussian Markov Random Field Models for Compositional Data
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to develop statistical models to reconstruct past land cover composition and human land use based on fossil pollen records over Europe for different time periods over the past 6000 years. Accurate maps of past land cover and human land use are needed when studying the interaction between climate and land surface, and the effects of human land use on past climate. LÄS MER
18. Computationally efficient methods in spatial statistics : Applications in environmental modeling
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, computationally efficient statistical models for large spatial environmental data sets are constructed. In the first part of the thesis, a method for estimating spatially dependent temporal trends is developed. A space-varying regression model, where the regression coefficients for the spatial locations are dependent, is used. LÄS MER
19. Modelling Sea Surface Dynamics Using Crossing Distributions
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals mainly with modelling sea surface dynamics. We consider two different scales. LÄS MER
20. Island biogeography of young land uplift islands - viewed through the lens of bryophytes in a northern Swedish archipelago
Sammanfattning : Increasing habitat fragmentation and rapid global warming is changing the conditions for species populations and ecological communities around the world. This presents challenges for the maintenance of biodiversity and a dominant paradigm for conservation in fragmented habitats is given by island biogeography and metapopulation (or metacommunity) ecology.
