  1. 1. Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators for Laser Beam Steering

    Författare :Emil Hällstig; Mikael Lindgren; Lars Sjöqvist; William Crossland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; spatial light modulator; liquid crystal; beam steering; tracking; phase modulation; fringing field; director distribution; finite-difference time-domain; polarization; temporal properties; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Laser beam control is important in many applications. Phase modulating spatial light modulators (SLMs) can be used to electronically alter the phase distribution of an optical wave-front and thus change the direction and shape of a laser beam. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Direct imaging of Stimulated Raman scattering : 3D spatial control and spatial generation

    Författare :Ronja Eriksson; Kerstin Ramser; Mikael Sjödahl; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) is a powerful imaging technique that has become popular during the last decades for its ability to image species specific in a sample with high accuracy. The purpose of this thesis is twofold. Firstly, to demonstrate 3D spatial control of where in the sample SRS is generated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Multi-Level Lossless Phase Modulation in Liquid Crystals for High-Speed Spatial Light Modulators

    Författare :David Engström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase measurements; polarization; phase modulation; beam steering; Spatial light modulators; diffractive optics; ferroelectric liquid crystals;

    Sammanfattning : The spatial light modulator (SLM) is a compact device that enables highly precise control of light propagation with low drive voltages and no moving parts. By imposing a certain phase modulation onto the incident lightwave, functions such as multi-beam steering, beam shaping, and air turbulence corrections can be achieved in realtime. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Surface-normal multiple quantum well electroabsorption modulators : for optical signal processing and asymmetric free-space communication

    Författare :Stéphane Junique; Lars Thylén; Uzi Efron; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spatial light modulators; quantum wells; optical resonator; Fabry–Pérot cavity; electroabsorption modulator; free–space optical communication; Photonics; Fotonik;

    Sammanfattning : Electroabsorption is the physical phenomenon by which the absorption of light in a medium can be controlled by applying an electric field. The Quantum–Confined Stark Effect, which makes the absorption band–edge in quantum wells very field–dependent, together with the strong absorption peak provided by excitons, are the physical foundations for the success of electroabsorption modulators based on quantum well structures in telecommunication networks. 5. 5. Dynamic and Static Diffractive Optics - some Examples

    Författare :Björn Löfving; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; subwavelength grating; spatial light modulator; phase retrieval; diffractive optics; ferroelectric liquid crystal; analog-to-digital conversion; optical switch; feedback generated hologram;

    Sammanfattning : Diffractive optics is a modern branch of optics, that exploits microstructures to manipulate the propagation of light. Fast computers and the progress in manufacturing technique of microelectronics have made possible a rapid development of diffractive optics during the past 10 years. LÄS MER
