1. Hedonic prices, economic growth, and spatial dependence
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers on econometric modeling of spatial dependence. The awareness of interactions between actors is fundamental for understanding property markets as well as the growth of regions. In both cases, neighbors and neighboring markets may stimulate or hamper growth of values. LÄS MER
2. Exploring Biological Systems using Spatial Transcriptomic Technologies
Sammanfattning : The transcriptome and the cells’ spatial organization are important determinants for the functions of biological systems, such as a tumor, brain, or skin tissue. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has emerged as a powerful tool for profiling the transcriptome of individual cells. LÄS MER
3. Spatial heterogeneity and biotic interactions : scaling from experiments to natural systems
Sammanfattning : Much of current ecological theory stems from experimental studies. These studies have often been conducted in closed systems, at spatial scales that are much smaller than the systems of interest. LÄS MER
4. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. LÄS MER
5. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability
Sammanfattning : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. LÄS MER
