1. Computational methods for analysis of spatial transcriptomics data : An exploration of the spatial gene expression landscape
Sammanfattning : Transcriptomics techniques, whether in the form of bulk, single cell/nuclei, or spatial methods have fueled a substantial expansion of our knowledge about the biological systems within and around us. In addition, the rate of innovation has accelerated over the last decade, resulting in a multitude of technological advances and new methods for generation of transcriptomics data. LÄS MER
2. Finding, extracting and exploiting structure in text and hypertext
Sammanfattning : Data mining is a fast-developing field of study, using computations to either predict or describe large amounts of data. The increase in data produced each year goes hand in hand with this, requiring algorithms that are more and more efficient in order to find interesting information within a given time. LÄS MER
3. Spatial transcriptome and epigenome analysis with focus on prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : Each cancer is unique, and therefore the use of general treatments are often suboptimal. If we can understand the mechanisms of cancer development, we might be able to develop effective treatments tailored to each patient. Our bodies are complex three-dimensional structures and how things are organized correlate with proper functioning. LÄS MER
4. Non-parametric methods for functional data
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop and study non-parametric methods within three major areas of functional data analysis: testing, clustering and prediction. The thesis consists of an introduction to the field, a presentation and discussion of the three areas, and six papers. LÄS MER
5. Schools in sparse spatial structures
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes and analyses how the school sector in sparsely populated municipalities in northern Sweden has developed with emphasis on spatial dimensions and in relation to demographic change and political reforms during the last 20 years. In paper I primary schools were studied in a number of small municipalities in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
