6. Aging Along the Hippocampal Axis : Structure, Function and Whole-brain Connections in Association with Memory
Sammanfattning : Hippocampus-dependent functions display marked reductions in older age, an observation that has led to the extensive study of age effects on hippocampal properties. Even though research indicates that the hippocampus is structurally and functionally heterogeneous along its longitudinal axis, its anterior and posterior regions differentially supporting episodic and spatial memory representations, few studies explicitly consider age effects in relation to axis. 7. Shared practices : social networks and fertility decline during the Swedish demographic transition, 1850-1950
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies how social interactions influenced the fertility decline during the Swedish demographic transition between 1850 and 1950. This, to gain insights into how and why norms and values affected married couples' birth control practices, and how this shaped the fertility decline. LÄS MER
8. Effects of prenatal IL-6 exposure and hyperinsulinemia on neuroendocrine regulation
Sammanfattning : Prenatal exposure to infection is associated with several neuroendocrine disorders. We therefore wanted to elucidate if cytokines, generated in response to maternal infection, play a key mechanistic role in this associations. LÄS MER
9. Population divergence at different spatial scales in a wide-spread amphibian
Sammanfattning : To study the distribution of genetic and phenotypic variation in different environments and at different spatial scales is important in order to understand the process of local adaptation and how populations will respond to future climate change. In my thesis I study populations of moor frogs (Rana arvalis) at different spatial scales, first along a 1700 km latitudinal gradient (Paper I, II, IV) and, second, in a system of inter-connected wetlands (III, IV). 10. Associations among early-season root and shoot traits, nutrient use efficiency and grain yield of spring wheat
Sammanfattning : Nutrient-efficient and high-yielding spring wheat is needed in high-latitude regions. The aims of this thesis were: (1) to evaluate the effects of soil compaction and differential weather conditions on plant growth and grain yield, (2) to identify critical nutrient elements limiting plant growth and grain yield, and (3) to identify root and shoot traits at an early growth stage (early vigor) influencing nutrient use efficiency and grain yield of spring wheat.
