    Sammanfattning : Hippocampus-dependent functions display marked reductions in older age, an observation that has led to the extensive study of age effects on hippocampal properties. Even though research indicates that the hippocampus is structurally and functionally heterogeneous along its longitudinal axis, its anterior and posterior regions differentially supporting episodic and spatial memory representations, few studies explicitly consider age effects in relation to axis.     Sammanfattning : To study the distribution of genetic and phenotypic variation in different environments and at different spatial scales is important in order to understand the process of local adaptation and how populations will respond to future climate change. In my thesis I study populations of moor frogs (Rana arvalis) at different spatial scales, first along a 1700 km latitudinal gradient (Paper I, II, IV) and, second, in a system of inter-connected wetlands (III, IV).     Sammanfattning : Nutrient-efficient and high-yielding spring wheat is needed in high-latitude regions. The aims of this thesis were: (1) to evaluate the effects of soil compaction and differential weather conditions on plant growth and grain yield, (2) to identify critical nutrient elements limiting plant growth and grain yield, and (3) to identify root and shoot traits at an early growth stage (early vigor) influencing nutrient use efficiency and grain yield of spring wheat.
