  1. 11. Ecology of lichens in boreal coniferous forests with reference to spatial and temporal patterns

    Författare :Per-Anders Esseen; Lars Ericson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lichens; epiphytes; Alectoria; Bryoria; Cladonia; Usnea; Picea abies; Pinus sylvestris; dispersal; litterfall; succession; diversity; spatial patterns;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with the ecology of lichens in two contrasting types of forest, epiphytic lichens in old Picea abies forest of the fi re-refugia type and epigeic as well as epixylic lichens in a successional sequence of fire- susceptible Pinus sylvestris forests. Results in five separate papers form the basis for a discussion of general patterns of dispersal, succession and life strategies in lichens. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Comparative studies of cognitive abilities in the Paridae : Evidence from laboratory studies

    Författare :Utku Urhan; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comparative cognition; Spatial memory; Food hoarding; Observational spatial memory; motor self-regulation; Cognitive sex differences; foraging strategies;

    Sammanfattning : The Paridae (tits, titmice and chickadees) is a bird family consisting of both food hoarding and non-hoarding species. Many studies have been conducted on birds that are considered to be cognitively advanced, such as parrots and corvids, whereas much less is known about these small passerines. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Searching for food in complex environments : Integrating processes at multiple spatial scales

    Författare :Thomas Alexander Verschut; Peter Hambäck; Peter Anderson; Ring Cardé; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Associational effects; Natal experiences; Olfaction; Oviposition; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Resources are often unevenly distributed through the environment, resulting in a challenging task for insects to locate food, mates and oviposition sites. Consequently, there is an ongoing need to unravel how insects rely on behavioural and sensory traits while searching for resources in heterogeneous environments. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The Role of Projected Anatomy, Random Noise, and Spatial Resolution on Clinical Image Quality in Digital Mammography

    Författare :Mark Ruschin; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D breast imaging; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; hybrid images; dose reduction; spatial resolution; pixel size; Breast cancer; digital mammography; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; breast tomosynthesis;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the recent advances in digital detector technology, there is an increasing trend in the use of digital mammography (DM) as a concurrent modality with screen-film mammography (SFM). In order to fully realize its potential, the components of a DM system should be optimized with respect to clinical image quality in order for clinicians to make accurate diagnoses. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The “Dark Side” of Marine Spatial Planning : A study of domination, empowerment and freedom through theories of discourse and power

    Författare :Ralph Voma Tafon; Michael Gilek; Fred P. Saunders; Wesley Flannery; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine spatial planning; discourse; power; domination; empowerment; freedom; conflict; resistance; small-scale fisheries; offshore wind energy; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to contribute to the marine spatial planning (MSP) literature by elaborating a robust theoretical account of power for a more rigorous and balanced critical analysis of MSP. Conceived as a problem-solving regime, MSP has emerged as a radical approach to govern the use and protection of marine resources. LÄS MER
