  1. 1. Fitting Objects Into Holes : On the Development of Spatial Cognition Skills

    Författare :Helena Örnkloo; Claes von Hofsten; Kerstin Rosander; Jeffrey Lockman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Psychology; toddlers; action planning; manipulation; means-end relationships; mental rotation; choice; positive-negative form; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Children’s ability to manipulate objects is the end-point of several important developments. To imagine objects in different positions greatly improves children’s action capabilities. They can relate objects to each other successfully, and plan actions involving more than one object. 2. 2. Spatial and Numerical Abilities in Infants and Toddlers

    Författare :Elin Schröder; Gustaf Gredebäck; Linda Forssman; Nora Newcombe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Having a basic understanding of numbers and math is important for functioning in society. The first mathematical challenge children meet is to learn to understand the natural numbers (the positive integers 1, 2 ,3…). Children must learn what number words symbolize and how to use counting to determine the number of elements in a set. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Phonological Awareness and Memory in Children with Severe Speech and

    Författare :Maria Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Children with severe speech and physical impairment (SSPI) often have problems acquiring the level of literacy that could be expected from their general level of intelligence or their other communicative abilities. The aim of this thesis was to examine phonological awareness and memory abilities in children with SSPI. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of environmental acoustic factors, individual differences and musical training on speech perception in simulated classrooms

    Författare :Douglas MacCutcheon; Robert Ljung; Daniel Västfjäll; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; speech in noise; cognition; perception; musical training; spatial listening; virtual classroom environment; bakgrundsljud; kognition; taluppfattning; musikalisk träning; rumsligt lyssnande; virtuella klassrumsmiljöer; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Sammanfattning : Formal learning takes place primarily through speech perception in classroom environments and is therefore dependent on the listener’s ability to cope with a number of acoustic factors that interfere with the speech signal. As classrooms are inclusive spaces accommodating learners with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds, this research investigated some of the ways in which individual differences in supporting cognitive skills are related to speech perception outcomes in various challenging acoustic environments. 5. 5. Visual dysfunction and ocular signs associated with periventricular leukomalacia in children born preterm

    Författare :Lena Jacobson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :preterm; retinopathy of prematurity; periventricular leukornalacia; magnetic resonance imaging; delayed visual maturation; visual acuity; crowding; visual field; cognitive visual dysfunction; optic disc; cupping; eye movements; nystagmus; strabismus; reading;

    Sammanfattning : The immature visual system is vulnerable to adverse events in infants born preterm. Both retinopathy of prematurity and periventricular leukomalacia may affect visual function and ocular appearance. LÄS MER
