1. From meteors to space safety : dynamical models and radar measurements of space objects
Sammanfattning : Every day the Earth's atmosphere is bombarded by 10-200 metric tons of dust-sized particles and larger pieces of material from space called meteoroids. Dust and meteoroids come from parent bodies such as comets and asteroids, which are remnants from the formation of the solar system. LÄS MER
2. Fuel retention and fuel removal from first wall components in tokamaks
Sammanfattning : Fuel inventory and generation of carbon and metal dust in a tokamak are perceived to be serious safety and economy issues for a steady-state operation of a fusion reactor, e.g. ITER. These topics have been explored in the on-going Ph. LÄS MER
3. Adaptive control for robots to handle uncertainties, delays and state constraints
Sammanfattning : The stability and safety of robotic systems are heavily impacted by delays and parametric uncertainties due to external disturbances, modeling inaccuracies, reaction forces, and variations in dynamics. This work addresses the effects of parametric uncertainties in the application of payload transportation by robotic systems that involve time delays and state constraints. LÄS MER
4. Attraction and Rejection : On the love–hate relationship between stars and black holes
Sammanfattning : Solitary stars wandering too close to the supermassive black hole at the centre of their galaxy may become tidally disrupted, if the tidal forces due to the black hole overcome the self-gravity holding the star together. Depending on the strength of the encounter, the star may be partially disrupted, resulting in a surviving stellar core and two tidal arms, or may be completely disrupted, resulting in a long and thin tidal stream expected to fall back and circularize into an accretion disc (the two cases are illustrated on the cover of this thesis). 5. Systemic absorption of glycine solution and the TUR syndrome : clinical, pathophysiological and pharmacological aspects
Sammanfattning : Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) requires the use of an irrigating fluid to remove blood and debris to visualise the operating area. Despite modern technique, unpredictable amoumts of irrigating fluid, which usually consists of glycme 1.5% in sterile water, enters the circulation during nearly every routine TURP. LÄS MER
