  1. 6. Dual isotope (13C-14C) Studies of Water-Soluble Organic Carbon (WSOC) Aerosols in South and East Asia

    Författare :Elena N. Kirillova; Örjan Gustafsson; Maria Cristina Facchini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric aerosols; water-soluble organic carbon; carbon isotopes; South Asia; East Asia; source apportionment; aerosol aging; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric aerosols may be emitted directly as particles (primary) or formed from gaseous precursors (secondary) from different natural and anthropogenic sources. The highly populated South and East Asia regions are currently in a phase of rapid economic growth to which high emissions of carbonaceous aerosols are coupled. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Impact of residential wood combustion on urban air quality

    Författare :Patricia Krecl; Christer Johansson; Johan Ström; Tami Bond; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; residential wood combustion; air quality; aerosols; black carbon; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; particulate matter; particle size distributions; source apportionment; positive matrix factorization; compound-specific radiocarbon analysis; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Wood combustion is mainly used in cold regions as a primary or supplemental space heating source in residential areas. In several industrialized countries, there is a renewed interest in residential wood combustion (RWC) as an alternative to fossil fuel and nuclear power consumption. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Carbonaceous Aerosol in Europe - out of the woods and into the blue?

    Författare :Jan Robert Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic aerosol; elemental carbon; chemical transport modelling; residential wood combustion; biotic stress induced emissions; source apportionment; EMEP MSC-W model;

    Sammanfattning : Particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere influences weather and climate and may have important health impacts. Regional scale chemical transport modelling aims to describe the composition of particulate matter, to track different sources, estimate their relative importance, and to give realistic predictions of responses to changes in emissions and atmospheric conditions. 4. 9. Air quality assessment and pollution measurements in a typical Sub-Sahara African city: Nairobi, Kenya

    Författare :Samuel Mwaniki Gaita; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Particulate matter pollutants; Source apportionment; Sub-Saharan Africa; deposition fractions;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to air pollution is detrimental to human health and is reported to cause about 7 million premature deaths in 2012 according to the World Health Organization. In sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) cities, air quality issue is complex due to challenges resulting from the rapid growth of urban population, poor infrastructure development and an exponential increase in number of vehicles. 5. 10. Airborne particulate matter in a Sub-Saharan Africa city: Nairobi, Kenya, and at an Equatorial high altitude site: Mount Kenya

    Författare :Samuel Mwaniki Gaita; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray Fluorescence XRF ; Particle Induced X-ray Emission PIXE ; Particulate matter pollutants; Source apportionment; sub-Saharan Africa; Deposition fractions; High- altitude; Free troposphere; Spatial distribution;

    Sammanfattning : In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), air quality is gravely understudied despite the existing influential factors such a rapid urbanization and population growth that negatively affect the environment. Majority of urban areas in SSA face challenges that include lack of social services, poor infrastructure development, exponential increase of second-hand vehicles and extensive use of biomass-based fuel for energy needs.
