11. Towards a responsive functional material: Modification of porosity and grafting of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) in mesoporous silica SBA-15
Sammanfattning : Mesoporous silica materials, such as SBA-15, have potential as biocompatible carriers for pharmaceutical applications as well as mini-reactors in e.g. catalysis. This potential arises from their well-defined porous structure on the nanometre scale accompanied by a high internal surface area (800 - 1000 m2/g). LÄS MER
12. Experimental studies of ion transport in cementitious materials under partially saturated conditions
Sammanfattning : Cement production is responsible for a significant portion of manmade CO2 emissions. This motivates the development of cementitious binders with a lower carbon footprint. Considering the emissions in a longer perspective, the durability of concrete structures is absolutely essential. LÄS MER
13. Moisture redistribution in screeded concrete slabs
Sammanfattning : The principal objective for this licentiate thesis is to develop a methodology and evaluation model in order to make the future relative humidity in a screeded concrete slab predictable. Residual moisture in screeded concrete slabs may redistribute to the top screed surface under semi-permeable flooring, thus elevating the relative humidity, RH, and possibly exceed the critical humidity level. 14. Batch Sorption Studies of Aqueous Cadmium and Lead from Contaminated Water onto Selected Biosorbents
Sammanfattning : Groundwater, wastewater, surface runoff and surface water samples from Lake Victoria basin, Uganda was assessed for trace metals contamination. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biosorbents from Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were investigated for removal of selected trace metals from contaminated water in batch studies. 15. Equilibrium and Kinetic Batch Studies of Cadmium and Lead sorption using Low Cost Biosorbents
Sammanfattning : Agricultural wastes; Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were evaluated for uptake of aqueous Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions in single- and binary-component solutions. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biomasses were employed in batch studies. LÄS MER
