11. Oncolytic Adenovirus Therapy of Neuroendocrine Tumors
Sammanfattning : Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), originally described as carcinoids, represent a rare and heterogeneous group of neoplasms associated with intensive secretion of hormones, bioactive peptides and amines. Most of the patients are diagnosed at a late stage of disease, often with liver metastases. LÄS MER
12. The Regulation of Growth and Survival in Human Multiple Myeloma Cells by IGF-I Receptor Signaling
Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable B-cell malignancy mainly localized to the bone marrow. Our aim was to examine the growth- and survival-promoting role of the IGF-IR and its downstream signaling components in MM cells to identify potential targets for therapy. LÄS MER
13. Life, death ant the role of IGF-I in human multiple myeloma
Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a clonal expansion of malignant cells with a plasmablast- plasma cell morphology in the bone marrow. It is a fatal disease with a median survival of 2-3 years after start of conventional therapy. LÄS MER
14. Effects of GH and liver-derived IGF-I on growth and metabolism
Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) exerts major effects on body growth and metabolism. Insulin-like growth factor (IGF) is expressed in response to GH and is known to mediate many of the effects of GH. The largest expression of IGF is found in the liver although it is expressed in virtually every tissue of the body. LÄS MER
15. Somatostatin effects on the proteome of human prostate cancer cells
Sammanfattning : The transition of prostate cancer from androgen dependent to the therapy resistant androgen independent state, is a large and persistent problem in the clinical management of prostate cancer. The aim of this thesis was to study somatostatin effects on the proteome of prostate cancer cells, to identify differences in protein expression in androgen dependent and androgen independent prostate cancer cells, and to explore possibilities to enhance the somatostatin receptor expression through pre-treatment with sms, 5-aza and TSA (DNA methylation/HDAC inhibitors).
