11. Exchange flows in estuaries and archipelagos
Sammanfattning : Different aspects of the exchange of water and tracersbetween adjacent coastal basins, and between the coast and thesea, are addressed. Deviations from the inviscid hydraulicprediction of flow rates and interface heights in maximaltwo-layer exchange flows due to viscous effects are quantifiedby means of non-hydrostatic, three-dimensional numericalmodeling. 12. Proton-Conducting Polymers and Membranes for Fuel Cells-Preparation and Properties
Sammanfattning : The development of new materials for use in fuel cells is of importance for the probable replacement of the combustion engine by this technology in public vehicles in the future. The proton-conducting polymer electrolyte membrane is one of the main components in the fuel cell. LÄS MER
13. Aspects of DNA Strand Exchange: Recombination Proteins and Model System Studies
Sammanfattning : DNA recombination is of fundamental importance to all living cells; it is part of the DNA repair machinery and a means to generate genetic diversity. DNA strand exchange, the exchange of strands between homologous DNA molecules, is the central reaction of the recombination process. LÄS MER
14. Towards alkali-stable polymers and hydroxide exchange membranes functionalized with alicyclic quaternary ammonium cations
Sammanfattning : In the current work, cationic polymers functionalized with N-alicyclic quaternary ammonium (QA) cations were synthesized and characterized as potential hydroxide exchange membranes (HEMs) for application in fuel cells. Three different polymers, namely poly(arylene ether sulfone), spiro-ionene and poly(arylene alkylene), were explored as polymer backbones for the HEMs. LÄS MER
15. Method Development in Quantitative and Structural Proteomics using Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, methods for studying different aspects of proteomics were developed with Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance, (FTICR), mass spectrometry. The FTICR technique provides ultra-high mass resolving power, mass accuracy at sub ppm level and sensitivity in the attomole region. LÄS MER
