  1. 6. Occupational exposure alters innate and adaptive immune responses

    Författare :Karin Sahlander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The farming environment is contaminated with high levels of organic dust. Especially pig barn facilities are highly polluted with airborne inhalable organic dust containing high amounts of molecular patterns from bacteria and fungi known to activate cells of the innate immunity through pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). 2. 7. Chronic immune activation and lymphocyte apoptosis during HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Nicolas Ruffin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 infected individuals are subject to a chronic immune activation resulting from HIV-1 replication, microbial translocation, and lymphopenia. Despite the great advance of antiretroviral treatment (ART), the immune activation remains associated with poor immune reconstitution during HIV-1 infection. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Vibrio cholerae modulates the immune defense of human gut mucosa

    Författare :Aziz Bitar; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sun Nynt Wai; Mikael Rehn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vibrio cholerae; intestinal epithelial cell; duodenum biopsy; acute cholera; immunomodulation; microRNA; OMV; cytokine; T84 monolayer; miR-146; miR-155; VCC; PrtV; hemolysis; IL-8; TNF-a; IL-1b; IL-18; CCL20; IRAK2; inflammation; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The key function of innate immunity is to sense danger signals and initiate effective responses as a defense mechanism against pathogens. Simultaneously, effector responses must be regulated to avoid excessive inflammation with resulting tissue damage. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Immune profile from high-risk to onset of Type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Anna Rydén; Maria Faresjö; Johnny Ludvigsson; Malin Flodström-Tullberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is most often diagnosed early in life and is usually the result of an autoimmune attack on the insulin producing β-cells of the pancreas, leading to a lack of insulin secretion and life-long insulin treatment. The search for possible targets pin-pointing the β-cell destruction is a constant endeavour in the pursuit to prevent T1D onset. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Immune activation during HIV-1 infection : implication for B cell dysfunctions and therapy monitoring

    Författare :Angelo De Milito; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV; B cell memory; hypergammaglobulinemia; immune activation; Fas-FasL; CD27-CD70;

    Sammanfattning : Aberrant activation of cells of the immune system plays a major role in the pathogenesis of HIV infection. The major aims of the thesis were: (a) to measure the effects of current antiretroviral therapy on immune activation through the analysis of soluble activation markers; (b) to evaluate the extent of T and B cell immune activation in relation to immunological and virological parameters; (c) to analyse the T-B cell molecular pathway leading to hyperactivation of B cells and loss of B cell function.
