    Författare :Fredrik Nordström; Åke Rasmuson; Gerard Coquerel; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Salicylic acid; m-hydroxybenzoic acid; p-hydroxybenzoic acid; salicylamide; m-aminobenzoic acid; p-aminobenzoic acid; solubility; solid-liquid equilibria; thermodynamics; activity of the solid phase; ideal solubility; activity coefficient; van t Hoff enthalpy of solution; solid state; solution properties; metastable zone width; primary nucleation; nucleation kinetics; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The Ph.D. project compiled in this thesis has focused on the role of the solvent in solid-liquid phase equilibria and in nucleation kinetics. Six organic substances have been selected as model compounds, viz. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Thermodynamic modelling of black liquor-related solutions. Pitzer method for estimating activities, solubilities and boiling point rise

    Författare :Marta Anna Bialik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; activity coefficient; black liquor; boiling point rise elevation ; osmotic coefficient; solubility; Pitzer method; sodium sulphate dicarbonate; burkeite;

    Sammanfattning : Black liquor is considered as being one of the most important process streams as far as the design and optimization of kraft pulp mills are concerned. Many methods have been developed in order to describe and, possibly, predict its physico-chemical properties. Most of them are, however, empirical methods that are difficult to generalize. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Författare :Anders Jaretun; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Potassium; Chloride; Chemical recovery; Leaching; Crystallization; Kraft pulping; Non-process elements; Solubility; Local composition; Excess properties; Osmotic coefficient; Electrolytes; Activity coefficient; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Sammanfattning : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately. Sammanfattning : Aqueous solubility is a key parameter influencing the bioavailability of drugs and drug candidates. In this thesis computational models for the prediction of aqueous drug solubility were explored. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Model for activity coefficients and solubilities of Na2CO3 and Na2SO4 in high-temperature solutions

    Författare :Marta Anna Bialik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; scaling; Pitzer model; activity coefficient; solubility; sodium carbonate; sodium sulfate; boiling point raise; double salt; solid solution; burkeite;

    Sammanfattning : Scaling of sodium sulfate and sodium carbonate double salts has long been recognized as a problem in the black liquor evaporation process. These salts are abundant in black liquor and often tend to precipitate on heat transfer areas, thereby significantly decreasing the heat transfer efficiency. LÄS MER
