2. Structure formation at solid/liquid interfaces : Understanding self-assembly and environmental challenges
Sammanfattning : The work described in the present dissertation has explored the structure of particles and molecules at solid/liquid interfaces, aiming to understand the physics of self-organizing systems and use this knowledge to address some environmental issues. Surface-sensitive neutron scattering techniques, such as reflectometry and grazing incidence small angle scattering, have been used as the primary tool to investigate structures in proximity to an interface. 3. Hydrodynamics and Complete Suspension in Axially Stirred Vessels
Sammanfattning : Complete suspension of solid particles in stirred vessels has been subject to numerous investigationsin order to develop appropriate design criteria for solid/liquid suspensions. Previous work on this matter has often suffered from the lack of knowledge of fluid mechanics in the system and models based on overall flow characteristics have been proposed in the literature. 4. Fluid Mechanics of Solid-Liquid Suspensions An Experimental and Numerical Study
Sammanfattning : Multiphase flows are common in many applications in chemical, mineral, biochemical and several other process industries. Examples of equipment in which multiphase flows are encountered are stirred vessels and multiphase jets, in which suspensions are agitated by an impeller in the former case and distributed through a nozzle in the latter. 5. Synthesis and Characterization of Sec-Packings Based on Trimethylolpropane Trimethacrylate
Sammanfattning : Suspension and bulk polymerization of trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) and copolymerization of TRIM with methyl methacrylate (MMA) resulted in porous, hydrophobic, and chemically crosslinked networks. Copolymerization of TRIM with acrylamide (AA) and with N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (bis-AA) resulted in hydrophilic gels. LÄS MER
