1. The hidden half of the meadow : Interactions between drought, soil carbon, roots and soil microbial communities
Sammanfattning : Soil is a hidden ecosystem which harbours plant roots and countless microorganisms, vital for sustaining life aboveground. These belowground communities provide essential ecosystem services like soil stabilisation and organic matter decomposition. LÄS MER
2. Remediation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance-contaminated soil and groundwater, using electrokinetic and stabilisation methods
Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS, are emerging contaminants with a worldwide environmental distribution and a concerning (eco)toxicological profile. The omnipresence of PFAS in various environmental media poses risks to the quality of our drinking water sources. LÄS MER
3. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. LÄS MER
4. Effects of structure liming on clay soil
Sammanfattning : Structure lime, comprising 80-85% ground limestone (CaCO3) and 15-20% slaked lime (Ca(OH)2), is applied to clay soils to counteract losses of particulate phosphorus (PP) through aggregate stabilisation. This thesis evaluated the effect of structure lime on soil aggregate stability, aggregate size distribution, draught requirement in tillage and crop yield. LÄS MER
5. Decomposition of soil organic matter under a changing climate : a matter of efficiency?
Sammanfattning : Soil organic matter is the largest carbon (C) pool in the terrestrial C cycle, and soil CO₂ emissions surpass anthropogenic emissions from fossil fuel combustion by a factor of nine. Therefore, mechanisms controlling C stabilisation in soils and its feedback to climate change are widely debated. LÄS MER
