  1. 1. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil

    Författare :Erik Andersson; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; PLFA; PAH metabolites; PAH; degradation; contaminated soil; soil; brown-rot fungi; white-rot fungi; Colonisation; fungal growth; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Wood-Decomposing Fungi: Soil colonization, effects on indigenous bacterial community in soil and hydroxyl radical production

    Författare :Karin Tornberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; hydroxyl radicals; fungal growth; interactions; soil colonization; bacterial community; soil; brown-rot fungi; wood-decomposing fungi; white-rot fungi; Ekologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The extracellular enzyme activities of wood-decomposing basidiomycetes are essential for wood degradation, but are also able to degrade various recalcitrant organic pollutants. The possible application of wood-decomposing fungi in bioremediation has increased the interest in understanding their growth and activity in soil. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Soil salinity as a driver of microbial community structure and functioning

    Författare :Kristin Rath; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil salinization; Soil Microbiology; soil microbial community; Bacteria; Aerobic; Fungi; Drying-rewetting; Microbial growth; Microbial biomass; Soil respiration; salinity tolerance; Saline soils; Salinity gradient;

    Sammanfattning : Soil salinization is a pressing agricultural problem in many areas of the world, particularly in areas heavily reliant on irrigation agriculture. While the negative effects of salinity on crop plants have been widely studied, its effects on soil microorganisms have received less attention, and the impact of soil salinity on both microbial community structure and functioning is not well understood. 4. 4. Plant-associated soil communities : Patterns, drivers and aboveground consequences

    Författare :Pil Uthaug Rasmussen; Ayco J. M. Tack; Martijn Bezemer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aboveground-belowground interactions; arbuscular mycorrhiza; climate; dispersal; environmental drivers; fungi; genetic variation; nematodes; plant-herbivore interactions; soil communities; spatial patterns; ekologi och evolution; Ecology and Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Soil contains a wealth of diversity – bacteria, fungi, nematodes, arthropods and earthworms are just some of the many organisms found belowground. These organisms play an important role in shaping the soil environment and they strongly influence plant fitness, diversity and community composition. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nutrient Limitation of Bacterial Growth in Soil

    Författare :Fredrik Demoling; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; Ecology; Fertilization; Bacteria; Soil; Fungi; Thymidine or Leucine incorporation; Growth limitation; Phosphorus; Nitrogen; Carbon;

    Sammanfattning : Lack of carbon has been assumed to be the most common limiting factor for bacterial growth in soil, although there are reports of limitation by nitrogen and phosphorus. I have studied nutrient limitation of bacterial growth in soil using a novel technique, where thymidine or leucine incorporation is used to detect changes in growth rates after adding nutrients.
