  1. 1. Chemical and bioanalytical characterisation of PAH-contaminated soils : identification, availability and mixture toxicity of AhR agonists

    Författare :Maria Larsson; Magnus Engwall; Jessika Hagberg; Peter Haglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polycyclic aromatic compounds; Soil; Risk assessment; Mixture studies; AhR-mediated activity; REPs; GC MS; H4IIE-luc bioassay; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Contaminated soils are a worldwide problem. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common contaminants in soil at former industrial areas, especially at old gasworks sites, gas stations and former wood impregnation facilities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modelling Chemical Weathering in Different Scales

    Författare :Johan Holmqvist; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biochemical technology; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Sustainable biomass production; Kriging; Illite; Epidote; Chemical weathering; Dissolution; Biokemisk teknik; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Chemical weathering is one of the most important processes supporting life on Earth. Chemical weathering continuously contributes macronutrients and micronutrients to the soil solution. These recycling, essential elements are used as building blocks for all organic living matter. 3. 3. Analysis and speciation of organic phosphorus in environmental matrices : Development of methods to improve 31P NMR analysis

    Författare :Johan Vestergren; Gröbner Gerhard; Jurgen Schleucher; Ulrik Ilstedt; Per Persson; Reiner Giesler; Benjamin L. Turner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phosphorus; soil; 31P NMR; NaOH EDTA; terrestrial; sulfide; speciation; bioavailability; paramagnetic; humus; boreal; tropical; multi-dimensional; agroforestry; chronosequence; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for life on our planet. It is central in numerous biochemical processes in terrestrial and aqueous ecosystems including food production; and it is the primary growth-limiting nutrient in some of the world’s biomes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Analysis of PAHs and their transformations products in contaminated soil and remedial processes

    Författare :Staffan Lundstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; degredation; transformation; formation; accumulation; oxidation products; metabolites; oxogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; oxy-PAHs; soil; gasworks; remediation; bioremediation; bioslurry; wood-rotting fungi; Fenton´s reagent; avaliability; bioavaliability; chemical analysis; extraction; pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; accelerated solvent extraction; ASE; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Soil that is heavily contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is often found at the sites of former gasworks and wood-impregnation plants. Since PAHs are toxic these sites represent a hazard to human health and the environment, and therefore they need to be treated, preferably by a method that destroys the contaminants, and thus eliminates the problem permanently. 5. 5. Element cycling in forest soils -modelling the effects of a changing environment

    Författare :Charlotta Walse; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; soil moisture; decomposition; base cations; weathering; acidification; scenario analysis; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Sammanfattning : Element cycling and nutrient supply in forest ecosystems are of vital importance for short-term productivity and for longer-term land management in terms of nutrient leaching and CO2 fixation. This thesis includes a series of studies with the objective of modelling some aspects of the effect of acidification and climate change on element cycling and nutrient supply in forest soil. LÄS MER
