  1. 16. Soil-living archaea: Influence of pH, carbon and nitrogen on their abundance and activity

    Författare :Anna Sterngren; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Archaea; ammonia-oxidizing archaea; soil; AOA; AOB; root exudates; gross nitrification; qPCR; pH; carbon cycle; nitrogen cycle;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade it has been discovered that around 2% of the soil-living prokaryotes belong to the domain Archaea. In many soils the most abundant archaeal group is the ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) that, in addition to ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), preform the first and rate-limiting step in the nitrification process. 2. 17. Ectomycorrhizal Fungal Mycelial Dynamics and its Role in Forest Soil Carbon Cycling

    Författare :Andreas Hagenbo; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Most boreal tree species rely on root-associated ectomycorrhizal fungi for nutrient acquisition, in exchange the trees allocate part of their photosynthetically fixed carbon (C) to these fungi. This has a feedback on soil C dynamics as mycorrhizal fungi are important in regulating soil C cycling and storage. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Effects of heavy metal contamination on carbon and nitrogen cycling : An ecological approach to assess risks to soil functions

    Författare :Ingrid Rijk; Alf Ekblad; Dan Berggren Kleja; Erik Karltun; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy metals; soil contamination; stable isotopes; N cycling microbial guilds; 13C; 15N; nitrification; denitrification; biochar; soil respiration; microbial activity; bioavailability;

    Sammanfattning : Soil contamination with heavy metals may disrupt soil microorganisms with important roles in carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) cycling. However, there is a lack of understanding on how microorganisms are affected in soil, which may lead to a mismatch when assessing risks of contaminants to field soils. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Impact of root and mycorrhizal exudation on soil carbon fluxes : influence of elevated CO2 and metals

    Författare :Emma M. Johansson; Patrick van Hees; Bert Allard; Phil Ineson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amino acids; 13C; carbon cycle; ectomycorrhiza; elevated CO2; exudation; DOC; LMWOA; metal stress; monosaccharides; oxalate; Pinus sylvestris; saprotrophic fungi; soil respiration; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns the behavior of root and ectomycorrhizal (ECM) exudates. In particular, the dynamics of soluble low molecular weight (LMW) organic compounds such as organic acids (LMWOAs), amino acids, monosaccharides, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) have been studied. 5. 20. On the role of terrestrial ecosystems in a changing Arctic

    Författare :Adrian Gustafson; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Northern high latitudes; Arctic climate change; climate-vegetation feedbacks; shrubs; shrubification; treeline migration; LPJ-GUESS; RCA-GUESS; nitrogen; carbon; Northern high latitudes; Arctic climate change; climate-vegetation feedbacks; shrubs; shrubification; treeline migration; LPJ-GUESS; RCA-GUESS; Nitrogen; Carbon;

    Sammanfattning : The global temperature rise is proportional to the cumulative amount of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. This observation is consistent between climate models and historical observations. LÄS MER
