  1. 1. Alkaliphilic Bacillus species and an alkaline active lipolytic enzyme

    Författare :Virginia Vargas Calle; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; soda lakes; alkaliphilic Bacillus sp.; lipolytic enzyme; Bacillus bogoriensis; Bacillus halodurans; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The Great Rift Valley running through Eastern Africa contains a large number of soda lakes. These unique lakes constitute among the most stable alkaline environments with a dense and varied population of microorganisms. Such microorganisms are invariable alkaliphiles and are considered to be a promising source of enzymes with unique features. LÄS MER

  2. 2. An Alkaline Active Cyclodextrin Glycosyltransferase from an Alkaliphilic Bacillus agaradhaerens

    Författare :Rita Martins; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloning; characterization; purification; 16S rRNA gene analysis; screening; alkaliphiles; soda lakes; Bacillus agaradhaerens; cyclodextrins; cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase; alpha-amylase family; sequencing; immobilization; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Soda lakes represent the most stable naturally-occurring alkaline environments on Earth and harbour a diverse population of alkaliphiles. Alkaliphilic microorganisms have attracted a great interest due to their ability to produce extracellular enzymes that are active and stable at high pH values. LÄS MER

  3. 3. An alkaline active maltooligosaccharide forming alpha-amylase from Bacillus halodurans

    Författare :Suhaila Hashim; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; differential scanning calorimetry; soda lakes; Bacillus halodurans; alkaliphile; á-amylase;

    Sammanfattning : The East African Rift Valley contains a number of soda lakes, which represent some of the most stable, naturally occurring alkaline environments on earth. Alkaliphilic microorganisms found in these habitats have attracted a great interest due to their ability to produce extracellular enzymes that are active and stable at high pH values for industrial applications. 4. 4. Mild Steam Explosion of Wood and Forest Residues in the Perspective of a Materials Biorefinery

    Författare :Joanna Wojtasz-Mucha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steam explosion; Forest residues; Pre-treatment; Soda cooking; Kraft cooking; Autohydrolysis; Biorefinery; Local properties; Hot water extraction;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this work was to explore the prospects of using mild steam explosion as a pretreatment step in a forest based material biorefinery. During the steam explosion saturated steam is applied to the biomass at elevated pressure leading to an autohydrolysis of the lignocellulosic tissue, which is followed by a rapid pressure discharge, disintegrating and opening up the structure. 5. 5. Pre-Extraction of Wood Components Mild hydrothermal methods for a future materials biorefinery

    Författare :Joanna Wojtasz-Mucha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spruce; forest residues; pre-treatment; Biorefinery; soda cooking; hot water extraction; steam explosion; autohydrolysis; birch; kraft cooking;

    Sammanfattning : Today there is an increasing urgency in discovering new, and more sustainable, replacements for fossil-based materials and chemicals. The biorefinery concept is promising in this context in that it relies on transforming biomass into a spectrum of commercial products. Wood is the primary bioresource in Scandinavia. LÄS MER
