Sammanfattning : In this thesis I analyze, with the help of social epidemiological theories, childhood risk factors behind suicidal behavior in adolescence and young adulthood. Sammanfattning : This thesis includes four empirical studies investigating factors related to educational and occupational careers in a Swedish cohort born in 1953. Data from the longitudinal “Stockholm Birth Cohort study” (SBC) are used. In Studies I & II I investigate educational careers among children whose parents were interviewed as part of the SBC study. Sammanfattning : In this thesis I analyze, from a symbolic interactionist perspective, the way in which experiences of incest in childhood have an impact on the process of the development of self, as well as the consequences with regard to the social self in adult life. The empirical data consist of 15 interviews with women who have been subjected to incest by their biological fathers or stepfathers. LÄS MER
20. Out-of-Home Care and Educational Outcomes : Prevalence, Patterns and Consequences
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to examine educational stratification in the context of out-of-home care (OHC; foster family care, residential care) and to place one of society’s most vulnerable groups in the fields of social stratification and family complexity research. About 5% of the Swedish population experience OHC during childhood or adolescence. LÄS MER
