11. New perspectives on socio-economic impacts of tourism : A study on the distributive effects of tourism and events on regional employment and income
Sammanfattning : In the broad field of the economic impact of tourism and events, most studies seek to understand regional tourism development by only focusing on a growth-oriented perspective and highly aggregated indicators, such as increases in GDP. Such a narrow view, however, systematically overlooks and disregards the negative socio-economic consequences that accompany economic growth, such as income inequality and precarious working conditions. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study incidence and case-fatality rate (CFR) of myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemic heart disease (IHD), by exploring relations to socioeconomic position (SEP), other cardiovascular risk factors, medical seeking pattern and time trends. Data from the Malmö Myocardial Infarction Register (1986-1995; n=5533), the Malmö 1990 cohort (1990-2003; n=69 223), the Malmö Preventive Project (19742004; n=33 224) and out-of-hospital IHD deaths in southern Sweden (1992-2003; n=14 347) were used. Sammanfattning : Aims: To analyse the relationship between country of birth/ethnicity, socio-economic status (SES) and impaired mobility, impaired working capacity, cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, health behaviours among those with CVD risk factors, self-reported health status, impaired instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and all-cause mortality. Methods: Two main data sources were used: the Swedish Survey of Living Conditions (in Swedish ULF) 1986–1993, people aged 55–74 years, and the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) 1988–1994 in the USA, people aged 65–84. 15. Patterns of migration and socio-economic change in Lao PDR
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis is to investigate patterns and consequences of internal and international migration in Laos during the period 1985-2005 on both a macro-and a micro-level. The thesis focuses on the influences of socio-economic change and government policies on inter-regional and rural-urban migration as well as on crossborder migration from Laos to Thailand. LÄS MER
