    Sammanfattning : Current gender norms predominantly construct gender as an expression of binary sex categories that are different but complementary.     Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this doctoral thesis is to examine the perceptions that new arrival immigrant families have of Swedish preschool, and the perceptions of these families as expressed by the Swedish state preschool political discourse over the last fifty-year period. The project adopts the garage and the penthouse as sites of enquiry, which means thinking through architecture as a cultural phenomenon, the agency of which includes but is not limited to spatial design, material compositions, visual representations, and historical contexts.
