1. Traffic-related pollutants in urban snow : Concentrations, size fractionation, and release with snowmelt
Sammanfattning : In urban areas with seasonal snow, traffic-related pollutants such as solid particles, metals, chloride, organic pollutants, and microplastics (MPs) can be temporarily stored in snowbanks along roads and streets. When the snow melts, it releases the accumulated pollutants and the resulting snowmelt with diverse pollutants may partly infiltrate into the ground, or enter storm sewers and eventually be discharged into, and impact on, the receiving waters. 2. Seasonal Cycling of Mercury in the Antarctic Sea Ice Environment
Sammanfattning : Mercury is a globally distributed contaminant that exists in the atmosphere as a stable monoatomic gas. Having almost a year’s residence time in the air allows it to reach remote polar regions. Deposited airborne mercury can be transformed in the environment to the organic and bio-accumulating compound methyl mercury. LÄS MER

4. Classification of different types of snow using spectral and angular imaging
Sammanfattning : The current thesis work details a non-contact detection approach concerningclassification of snow with different physical properties such as grain size, densityand specific surface area (SSA). In this approach, reflected light from snowsurfaces is measured as a function of wavelength and viewing geometry. LÄS MER
5. Spatial distribution of snow in Antarctica and other glacier studies using ground-penetrating radar
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to develop and exemplify the use of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) within the field of glaciology. The main focus is on the spatial distribution of snow in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. LÄS MER
