1. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal
Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 2. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells. 3. Diffusion in Poly(vinyl alcohol) and Polyethylene as Determined by Computational Simulations and Modeling
Sammanfattning : Poly(vinyl alcohol) and polyethylene polymer systems werebuilt in order to study their transport properties (diffusion).First a verification of the AMBER force field was conducted fora poly(vinyl alcohol) system built from a chain with 145repeating units. NPT-molecular dynamics simulations attemperatures between 400 and 527 K were performed. LÄS MER
4. Unsaturated Solute Transport in a Semiarid Catchment - Nonlinear Analyses and Modelling
Sammanfattning : Unsaturated solute transport is highly variable and therefore difficult to predict. In semi-arid areas, where water resources are limited, the presence of macropores is of great importance for crop production. The bromide ion (Br-) and dye tracers are useful for studies of water movement. LÄS MER
5. Stress Effects on Solute Transport in Fractured rocks
Sammanfattning : The effect of in-situ or redistributed stress on solute transport in fractured rocks is one of the major concerns for many subsurface engineering problems. However, it remains poorly understood due to the difficulties in experiments and numerical modeling. LÄS MER
