11. Population History and Non-invasive Monitoring : Use of low copy number DNA in Conservation Genetics
Sammanfattning : Conservation genetics research is increasingly becoming an integrated part of the management of small and endangered populations. In this thesis I developed tools for genetic analysis of low copy number sources of DNA, such as old teeth from museum specimens as well as field-collected faeces and urine. LÄS MER
12. Population Fragmentation and Genetic Variation in Grouse
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the genetic variation of two grouse species, the Chinese grouse (Bonasa sewersowi) and the Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) was examined with neutral genetic markers: microsatellites. Habitat fragmentation and isolation leads to structuring among and loss of genetic variation within populations. LÄS MER
13. Monitoring gene level biodiversity - aspects and considerations in the context of conservation
Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis relate to questions needed to be addressed in the context of genetic monitoring for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity for the gene level. Genetic monitoring is quantifying temporal changes in population genetic metrics. LÄS MER
14. Essays on inheritance, small businesses and energy consumption
Sammanfattning : Essay 1: People’s planning to evade the inheritance tax curtails its merits. However, the extent of planning remains a matter of argument. According to popular belief, it is widespread, but few estimates have been presented. LÄS MER
15. Population Dynamics and Conservation of the Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) on the Edge of its Range
Sammanfattning : The sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) reaches the northern periphery of its distribution in south-central Sweden, where small, isolated relict populations occur in pine heath forests on sandy sediments. Modern forestry and fire suppression have reduced the amount of suitable open habitat for the species in this area and seem to be important for its decline. LÄS MER
