  1. 1. Galectin Inhibitors – Molecular Tools in Biomedical Research and Clinical Implications

    Författare :John Stegmayr; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galectins; inhibitors; evaluation assays; cell culture; idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; synthetic small-molecule galectin inhibitors; plant-derived polysaccharides;

    Sammanfattning : Galectins are β-galactoside-binding lectins, which are present in both the intracellular and extracellular environments of cells. During the last two decades, galectins have gained increasing interest as drug targets in various diseases, such as chronic inflammation (fibrosis) and cancer, in which galectins have been shown to play important, and sometimes rate-limiting, roles. 2. 2. Modeling and exploring human IRE1 as a strategy to design novel inhibitors: a computational approach

    Författare :Antonio Carlesso; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ER stress; unfolded protein response; cancer; inflammation; neurodegeneration; therapeutic targets; molecular docking; molecular dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Inositol Requiring Enzyme 1 (IRE1) is a bifunctional serine/threonine kinase and endoribonuclease that is the major mediator of the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) during endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. The association of IRE1 dysregulation with a wide range of human diseases, stimulated research towards the discovery of small organic molecules able to modulate IRE1 signalling, and to potentially be used as novel therapeutics. 3. 3. Novel inhibitors of Chlamydia trachomatis virulence

    Författare :Carlos Nunez-Otero; Åsa Gylfe; Sven Bergström; Fredrik Almqvist; Jörgen Johansson; Patrik Bavoil; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia trachomatis; 2-pyridone; small molecules; KSK213; Structure-Activity Relationships SAR ; antibiotic resistance; target identification; transcription; RNA; progeny; infectivity;

    Sammanfattning : Chlamydia trachomatis is an obligate intracellular bacterium that infects over 100 million people globally every year. Chlamydia infections can be persistent, cause infertility and blindness, adding an economical burden in the healthcare systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Chemical attenuation of bacterial virulence : small molecule inhibitors of type III secretion

    Författare :Anna Kauppi; Mikael Elofsson; Anders Karlén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; virulence; type III secretion; T3SS inhibitors; Yop; SMD; QSAR; screening; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the large arsenal of antibiotics available on the market, treatment of bacterial infections becomes more challenging in view of the fact that microbes develop resistance against existing drugs. There is an obvious need for novel drugs acting on both old and new targets in bacteria. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Inhibitors Targeting Insulin-Regulated Aminopeptidase (IRAP) : Identification, Synthesis and Evaluation

    Författare :Karin Engen; Mats Larhed; Mikael Elofsson; Uppsala universitet; []
