  1. 16. Glypican-1: Structural and functional analysis of the N-glycosylated human protein

    Författare :Wael Awad Abdelhady; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteoglycans; glypicans; glypican-1; heparan sulphate; N-glycosylation; exostosin-proteins; X-ray crystallography; crystal dehydration; diffraction anisotropy; Small angle X-ray scattering SAXS9; protein spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Glypicans are multifunctional cell surface heparan sulphate proteoglycans co-regulating numerous signalling pathways, and are thereby involved in the control of cellular division, differentiation, and morphogenesis. The heparan sulphate (HS) chains are responsible for many of those biological functions; nevertheless recent studies suggest functional roles for the glypican core proteins in mediating the signalling of various growth factors. 2. 17. Operando Characterisation of Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

    Författare :Yu-Chuan Chien; Daniel Brandell; Matthew Lacey; Paul Shearing; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lithium–sulfur batteries; operando characterisation; intermittent current interruption; X-ray diffraction; small-angle scattering; electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries have been under the spotlight of research on electrochemical energy storage systems, primarily owing to their high theoretical specific energy (2552 Wh kg-1). So far, Li–S cells on the market have presented a specific energy of 400 Wh kg-1, which is superior to many commercial alternatives, but far below the theoretical value. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Properties of Nonionic Surfactant Membranes

    Författare :Thao Le; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lamellar; multilamellar vesicle; small-angle x-ray scattering SAXS ; small-angle neutron scattering SANS ; static light scattering SLS ; joule heating temperature jump JHTJ ; dynamic light scattering DLS ; Nonionic surfactants; sponge; elastic curvature energy; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation of the multilamellar vesicles (La*), lamellar (La), and multiply connected sponge (L3) phase formed in surfactant systems is presented in this thesis. These membrane structures were studied using surfactant systems containing poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ethers, n-CnH2n+1(OCH2CH2) mOH, commonly abbreviated as CnEm. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Combined structural methods to characterize an oligomeric small heat shock protein Hsp21

    Författare :Gudrun Rutsdottir; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small heat shock proteins; chaperones; crosslinking mass spectrometry; Stable isotope labeling; quantification; small angle X-ray scattering; cryo-electron microscopy; combined structural methods; plant stress;

    Sammanfattning : Small heat shock proteins (sHsps) are found in all organisms and evolved early in the history of life, prior to the divergence of the three domains of life (Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya). Their malfunction is connected to several different diseases in humans, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Carbides in martensitic medium carbon low alloyed tool steels studied with small angle scattering techniques, electron microscopy and atom probe tomography

    Författare :Erik Claesson; Peter Hedström; Hans Magnusson; Erik Offerman; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Medium carbon low alloyed tool steels are used today in various areas to shape plastics, nonferrous metals, and steels, and they are crucial in the manufacturing industry. To be effective, tool steels must be strong and tough, and have high wear resistance and temperature stability. LÄS MER
