1. The skin surface microenvironment. Aspects on biophysical conditions and microbiology
Sammanfattning : The influence of skin environmental factors has been investigated in five studies. In the first study, the microbial growth and rash development in diaper dermatitis were studied in order to evaluate a UVB radiation therapy in comparison with a combined antifungal-hydrocortisone cream. 2. Laser Doppler perfusion imaging : methodology and skin applications
Sammanfattning : Over the last decade a number of emerging technologies have become available for the non-invasive study of skin anatomy and physiology. In this thesis, a method for mapping tissue perfusion based on the laser Doppler technique is presented together with some of the associated experimental and clinical applications. LÄS MER
3. Steady-State Diffusion in Complex Amphiphilic Films
Sammanfattning : The relation between structure and diffusive transport at steady-state is investigated theoretically for amphiphilic systems. Amphiphilic systems typically show a large response to moderate changes in control parameters, such as temperature, osmotic pressure, and the presence of cosolvents and cosolutes. LÄS MER
4. Studies on the pH gradient in normal and ichthyotic human skin
Sammanfattning : In search for pathogenetic mechanisms underlying hyperkeratosis, we examined the pH gradient across the stratum corneum in normal and ichthyotic skin. Twenty students and employees, (12 men and 8 womenaged 25-69 years) served as controls. Patients with ichthyoses were recruited from the outpatient clinic (13 men aged 12-71 years). LÄS MER
5. In vivo evaluations of the neutralizing effect of a hydroxyl ion-releasing resin composite and a prophylactic gel on plaque acidogenicity : measured by the microtouch method
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of dental caries has decreased dramatically in most developed countries since the sixties and the number of remaining teeth in adults has increased during the last decades. Elderly as a group will during aging become an increasing risk group for caries. LÄS MER
