1. Minimally-invasive breast interventions : methods for high yield, low risk, precision biopsy and curative thermal ablation
Sammanfattning : Advances in medical imaging and the introduction of population-based screening programs have increased the detection rate and overall proportion of small breast tumors. In addition, progress in technology and medical science, in combination with efforts to minimize morbidity, have resulted in the emergence of minimally invasive image-guided interventional procedures for both diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. 2. Immunological mechanisms in atopic dermatitis : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to investigate immunological mechanisms in atopic dermatitis. Serum IgE levels are elevated in 80% of atopic dermatitis patients and CD4+ T cells and environmental allergens are known to be of importance in the pathogenesis of the disease. LÄS MER
3. Analysis of human epidermal Langerhans' cells and allergens with confocal laser scanning microscopy
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to explore confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) as a tool for 1) quantitative and 3-dimensional (3-D) analysis of the human antigen-presenting Langerhans' cell (LC) in epidermis and 2) for localization of allergens in yeast cells and in birch pollen. Epidermal LCs were investigated after occlusion with patch tests and in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) skin. LÄS MER
4. Studies on molecular regulation of inflammation in cutaneous lupus erythematosus
Sammanfattning : Lupus erythematosus (LE) is an autoimmune disease with a wide range of clinical manifestations. This spectrum spans from limited cutaneous disease to life-threatening rheumatic disorder involving vital organs. Sun exposure is an evident exogenous trigger of both cutaneous (CLE) and systemic LE (SLE). LÄS MER
5. Botulinum Toxin in the Treatment of Focal Hyperhidrosis and Dyshidrotic Hand Dermatitis
Sammanfattning : Excessive sweating may cause considerable disability, with psychological, social and occupational consequences. Primary hyperhidrosis may also play a key role in the pathogenesis of dyshidrotic dermatitis and some other skin diseases. LÄS MER
