26. Bone turnover markers and prediction of bone loss in elderly women
Sammanfattning : Around 70,000 osteoporosis-related fractures occur in Sweden annually and approximately half of the women in western world will sustain a fragility fracture after the age of 50 years. Fracture preventive efforts require the identification of individuals who are at high risk. LÄS MER
27. Myocardial angiogenesis induced by plasmid VEGF-A165 gene transfer : experimental and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : New therapeutic options have emerged for patients with medically intractable angina who are not candidates for conventional revascularisation techniques, from increasing understanding of the biology of vessel formation and how different angiogenic growth factors participate in the process. Administration of vascular endothelial growth factor-A165 (VEGF-A165), a key regulator of vessel growth, has been shown to augment myocardial collateral growth. LÄS MER
28. Teratogenicity as a consequence of drug-induced embryonic cardiac arrhythmia : Common mechanism for almokalant, sotalol, cisapride, and phenytoin via inhibition of IKr
Sammanfattning : During the last years, drugs that prolong the repolarisation phase of the myocardial action potential, due to inhibition of the rapid component of the delayed-rectifying potassium channel (IKr) have been in focus. In addition to arrhythmogenic potential, selective Ikr-blockers have also been shown to be embryotoxic and teratogenic in animal studies. LÄS MER
29. Norm and difference : Stone Age dietary practice in the Baltic region
Sammanfattning : Stone Age research on Northern Europe frequently makes gross generalizations about the Mesolithic and Neolithic, although we still lack much basic knowledge on how the people lived. The transition from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic in Europe has been described as a radical shift from an economy dominated by marine resources to one solely dependent on farming. LÄS MER
30. The Urban Farmer : Osteoarchaeological Analysis of Skeletons from Medieval Sigtuna Interpreted in a Socioeconomic Perspective
Sammanfattning : At the end of the 10th century the first Swedish town Sigtuna was founded, which can be recognized as the beginning of urbanization in the Mälaren valley. Christianity was growing strong and the administrative power was probably concentrated to a few magnates gathered around a king. LÄS MER
