    Sammanfattning : Connective tissue contains a prominent extracellular matrix (ECM), which provides for physiological and mechanical properties. Intra- and inter-molecular interactions between proteins in this ECM provide for the formation of molecular networks. These interactions determine the shape of the tissue as well as cell behavior.     Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, skeletal and dental evidence of physical strain and habitual behaviour has been investigated through musculoskeletal stress markers (MSM) and extramasticatory dental wear. The skeletal and dental traits have been examined in relation to health patterns and material culture in order to gain better knowledge of life ways of hunter-gatherers on Gotland with special focus on Pitted Ware culture sites and the Ajvide site in particular.     Sammanfattning : Effective insulin-stimulated storage of excess glucose after a meal, and its rapid mobilisation in the fasting state provide basis of glucose homeostasis. Glycogen is the macromolecular storage form of glucose and glycogen synthase (GS) is the rate-limiting enzyme in glycogen synthesis. Skeletal muscle and liver are the major depots of glycogen. LÄS MER
