21. Reconstructing the Human Past using Ancient and Modern Genomes
Sammanfattning : The study of DNA variation is one of the most promising avenues for learning about the evolutionary and historical past of humans and other species. However, the difficulty associated with obtaining DNA directly from ancient remains have for long kept genomic studies of population history trapped in time; confined to interpreting patterns of modern-day variation without direct historical observations. 22. FOXC2 and CAPN10 as candidate genes for obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : The worldwide prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes is increasing rapidly. Both disorders depend on genetic and environmental factors. The studies included in this thesis investigated the possible association of the FOXC2 and CAPN10 genes with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and related phenotypes. LÄS MER
23. Angina pectoris : neurophysiological mechanisms with special references to adenosine and Syndrome X
Sammanfattning : Angina pectoris is the major symptom of ischemic heart disease (IHD). It is a visceral pain and the clinical presentation is complex. Its character is not well defined and this is reflected in a lack of specific pain-mediating neural structures. LÄS MER
24. Early Cambrian Problematic Lophotrochozoans and Dilemmas of Scleritome Reconstructions
Sammanfattning : The emergence and radiation of metazoan body plans around the Precambrian/Cambrian boundary, some 500-600 million years ago, seems to be concordant with the appearance and diversification of preservable hard parts. Several Precambrian soft-bodied, multicellular organisms most likely represent stem-group bilaterians, but their fossil record is rather sparse. LÄS MER
25. Perspectives from a human-centred archaeology : Iron Age people and society on Öland
Sammanfattning : The objective of this study was to develop, test and evaluate a specifically defined interdisciplinary approach—the human-centred approach—as applied to a case study, Iron Age Öland. Four themes were selected to highlight different aspects of particular interest in Öland: taphonomy, diet, migration, and social organization. LÄS MER
