1. Efficient strategies for collecting posture data using observation and direct measurement
Sammanfattning : Relationships between occupational physical exposures and risks of contracting musculoskeletal disorders are still not well understood; exposure-response relationships are scarce in the musculoskeletal epidemiology literature, and many epidemiological studies, including intervention studies, fail to reach conclusive results. Insufficient exposure assessment has been pointed out as a possible explanation for this deficiency. LÄS MER
2. Essays on spatial point processes and bioinformatics
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two separate parts. The first part consists of one paper and considers problems concerning spatial point processes and the second part includes three papers in the field of bioinformatics. LÄS MER
3. Continuous-Time Models in Kernel Smoothing
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers (Papers A-E) treating problems in non-parametric statistics, especially methods of kernel smoothing applied to density estimation for stochastic processes (Papers A-D) and regression analysis (Paper E). A recurrent theme is to, instead of treating highly positively correlated data as ``asymptotically independent'', take advantage of local dependence structures by using continuous-time models. 4. Mutation and Diversity in Avian Sex Chromosomes
Sammanfattning : Sex chromosomes are useful for the study of how factors such as mutation, selection, recombination and effective population size affect diversity and divergence.A comparison of gametologous introns in seven different bird species revealed a complete lack of diversity on the female-specific W chromosome. 5. Sexual conflict and selection on pistil and pollen traits
Sammanfattning : The incidence of sexual selection in plants is today acknowledged, however, just as in animals, evolution and maintenance of mate choice is gravely underexplored. Moreover, the potential for sexual conflicts to occur in plants has only been assessed empirically to a very limited degree. LÄS MER
