16. Characterization of Magnetic Nanoscale Systems: From Molecules to Particles and Self-Assembled Chains
Sammanfattning : This thesis characterizes magnetic nanoscale systems with increasing size and aspect ratio using synchrotron radiation-based spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, combined with conventional magnetometry. The systems studied are molecular magnets, bimagnetic nanoparticles and self-assembled magnetic nanochains. LÄS MER
17. Crystallographic studies of transaldolase : implications for the enzymatic mechanism and the evolution of class I aldolases
Sammanfattning : Transaldolase catalyzes the reversible transfer of a dihydroxyacetone moiety from a ketose donor to an aldose acceptor by forming a Schiff-base intermediate between a Iysine residue and dihydroxyacetone. It belongs to the class I aldolase family. LÄS MER
18. Glypican-1: Structural and functional analysis of the N-glycosylated human protein
Sammanfattning : Glypicans are multifunctional cell surface heparan sulphate proteoglycans co-regulating numerous signalling pathways, and are thereby involved in the control of cellular division, differentiation, and morphogenesis. The heparan sulphate (HS) chains are responsible for many of those biological functions; nevertheless recent studies suggest functional roles for the glypican core proteins in mediating the signalling of various growth factors. 19. Magnetically governed self-assembly of soft matter : A look into interfacial layering, crystallization and percolation
Sammanfattning : Self-organisation is the key route for assembling colloidal particles into well-defined structures. Decisive for this are the interactions between the constituents, which are amongst others steric, electrostatic or magnetic. LÄS MER
20. Cognitive profiles of vascular and neurodegenerative MCI
Sammanfattning : The objective of the thesis was to investigate the cognitive profiles of different types of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and follow their course over time. Would it be possible to differentiate between ?benign? and ?malign? forms of MCI, and identify different dementia disorders in their prodromal stages by means of cognitive profiles? In study I consecutive MCI subjects (N=112) were assessed with a neuropsyhological test battery of 21 tests. LÄS MER
