11. Single-cell methodologies for ecological and metabolic mapping of mixotrophic microeukaryotes
Sammanfattning : Mixotrophy in aquatic protists is pivotal for our understanding of aquatic microbial food web dynamics. This thesis is centered around aquatic unicellular mixotrophs, and comprises three methodological approaches aimed to tackle mixotroph ecology at single-cell resolution: the identification of actively feeding mixotrophs in natural samples, the determination of specific interactions among mixotrophs and bacterial prey, and the profiling of two distinct mixotrophic populations based on the gene expression of their constitutive individuals. 12. Imaging-based methods for NK cell studies at the single-cell level
Sammanfattning : The immune system provides defense against infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. Besides eliminating extracellular agents, the immune system also constantly monitors our own cells for signs of transformation, including tumor development and virus infection. LÄS MER
13. Droplet microfluidics for single cell and nucleic acid analysis
Sammanfattning : Droplet microfluidics is an emerging technology for analysis of single cells and biomolecules at high throughput. The controlled encapsulation of particles along with the surrounding microenvironment in discrete droplets, which acts as miniaturized reaction vessels, allows millions of particles to be screened in parallel. 14. Variational methods for phylogeny and single-cell genomics
Sammanfattning : The investigation of the evolutionary history of organisms, both at the cellular level and at the species level, is a relevant research topic in computational biology. These investigations lead to a deeper understanding of developmental history, cancer progression, the genetic similarity of species, and more. LÄS MER
15. Computational Single-Cell Genomics Methods for Cell State Estimation and their Application to Hematopoietic Systems
Sammanfattning : The focus of this doctoral dissertation was to develop novel and scalable computational genomics methods for analysing single-cell genomic modalities. Scarf, a highly memory-efficient single-cell data analysis toolkit, was developed to enable an analysis of very large-scale datasets on personal computers, and the execution of parallel workflows on server-scale computational systems.
