  1. 1. Effects of Antioxidant and Lipid Lowering Treatment on Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease : With special reference to Mixed Tocopherols and Stable Fish Oil

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Meilin Liu; Afaf Kamal-Eldin; [2002]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Cardiovascular disease; Antioxidants; Tocopherols; Endothelial constitutive nitric oxide synthase; Superoxide dismutase; Protein kinase C; Fish oils; Fatty acids; Simvastatin; Lipoprotein; Medicin; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin E in food, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and lipid lowering treatment with statins have been found to decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiac death. However, clinical trials revealed no beneficial effect of intake of alpha-tocopherol alone. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The mevalonate pathway is an important biosynthetic pathway, found in all cells of virtually all known pro- as well as eukaryotic organisms. This thesis is an investigation into the use of two drugs, originally developed for different applications, but both affecting the mevalonate pathway, in to models of fracture repair. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : More than one million people worldwide receive some kind of bone graft each year. Grafts are often needed following bone tumour removal or traumatic fractures to fill voids in the bone and to aid in the healing process. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tissue Factor Biological Functions Coagulation Activity in Microparticles and Signaling with Focus On Migration and Apoptosis

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Universitetsbiblioteket

    Sammanfattning : Background: Tissue factor (TF) is a 47 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein known as the main initiator of blood coagulation. TF is over-expressed on many malignant cells and apart from increasing the risk of thrombosis, the presence of TF/FVIIa also promotes the progression of cancer and metastasis by intracellular signaling. 5. 5. Experimental Studies Aiming to Prevent Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Tobias Rydgren; Uppsala universitet.; [2007]
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; Diabetes; Interleukin-1 trap; Simvastatin; Nitric oxide synthase; Cytokine; Pancreatic islet; Streptozotocin; Transplantation; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease in which T-cells and macrophages invade the islets of Langerhans and selectively destroy the insulin producing β-cells, either directly or through the secretion of e.g. cytokines and nitric oxide (NO). This thesis has studied possible strategies to prevent T1DM. LÄS MER
