1. Essays on Household Behavior and Time-Use
Sammanfattning : Essay 1 studies the household's decision to supply labor and tests if the so-called unitary model holds. What is subject to a test is the resulting symmetry of the Slutsky matrix, i.e., that the compensated cross-wage effects are equal. LÄS MER
2. Assessment of cerebrospinal fluid system dynamics : novel infusion protocol, mathematical modelling and parameter estimation for hydrocephalus investigations
Sammanfattning : Patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) have a disturbance in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) system. The treatment is neurosurgical – a shunt is placed in the CSF system. The infusion test is used to assess CSF system dynamics and to aid in the selection of patients that will benefit from shunt surgery. LÄS MER
3. High Order Finite Difference Methods with Artificial Boundary Treatment in Quantum Dynamics
Sammanfattning : The investigation of the dynamics of chemical reactions, both from the theoretical and experimental side, has drawn an increasing interest since Ahmed H. Zewail was awarded the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry. LÄS MER
4. Analysis of boundary and interface closures for finite difference methods for the wave equation
Sammanfattning : We consider high order finite difference methods for the wave equations in the second order form, where the finite difference operators satisfy the summation-by-parts principle. Boundary conditions and interface conditions are imposed weakly by the simultaneous-approximation-term method, and non-conforming grid interfaces are handled by an interface operator that is based on either interpolating directly between the grids or on projecting to piecewise continuous polynomials on an intermediate grid. 5. Finite Difference Methods for Wave Dominated Problems
Sammanfattning : Wave models are an important class of models that describe many diverse phenomena such as sound waves, fluid flow, and quantum mechanics. These models are often described mathematically as partial differential equations (PDE). Often these equations do not admit solutions on closed-form and then the only option to study them is numerical methods. LÄS MER
