  1. 1. Specific signaling through heteromeric PDGF receptor complexes

    Författare :Simon Ekman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal cells and exert its effect by binding to two structurally related receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted α- and β-receptors. PDGF binding induces dimerization of its receptors, both homo-and heterodimerization, leading to their autophosphorylation on tyrosine residues and binding of downstream signaling molecules. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prognostic Factors in Malignant Melanoma

    Författare :Åsa Bolander; Michael Bergqvist; Simon Ekman; Anders Larsson; Daniel Brattström; Gunnar Wagenius; Torgny Rasmuson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Malignant melanoma; prognostic factors; survival; chemotherapy; radiation;

    Sammanfattning : Because of the failure so far to find effective treatment for patients with advanced stages of melanoma, increasing efforts have been made to find prognostic factors identifying patients in the risk zone for development of metastasis.This thesis investigates the prognostic powers of a few selected serological and immunohistochemical biomarkers. 3. 3. Prognostic Factors in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

    Författare :Georg Holgersson; Stefan Bergström; Michael Bergqvist; Simon Ekman; Fredrik Pontén; Henrik Riska; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NSCLC; prognostic factors; survival; histology; anemia; leukocytosis; thrombocytosis; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the cancer disease with the highest mortality globally. About 75% of NSCLC patients are diagnosed in an advanced stage where surgical treatment is not possible. For patients with locally advanced disease without distant metastases, the treatment of choice is curatively intended radiotherapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Prognostic Biomarkers and Target Proteins for Treatment of High-grade Gliomas

    Författare :Linda Sooman; Simon Ekman; Johan Lennartsson; Joachim Gullbo; Michael Bergqvist; Erik Blomquist; Stefan Bergström; Beatrice Melin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; High-grade glioma; prognostic biomarkers; combination chemotherapy; DNA methylation; FGF2; p38 MAPK; PTPN6; camptothecin; imatinib; vandetanib; EGFR; RAC1; Notch; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The survival for high-grade glioma patients is poor and the treatment may cause severe side effects. A common obstacle in the treatment is chemoresistance. To improve the quality of life and prolong survival for these patients prognostic biomarkers and new approaches for chemotherapy are needed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Targeting Gb3 and apoptosis-related proteins to overcome cisplatin resistance

    Författare :Andreas Tyler; Kjell Grankvist; Simon Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cisplatin resistance; exosomes; gb3; HSP70; the Bcl-2 family; cell research; cellforskning; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Cisplatin is used for treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but treatment with cisplatin often leads to acquired resistance to cisplatin, resulting in poor patient survival. Globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) and multidrug resistance protein 1 (MDR1) have been associated with cisplatin resistance. LÄS MER
