6. From the Electronic Structure of Point Defects to Functional Properties of Metals and Ceramics
Sammanfattning : Point defects are an inherent part of crystalline materials and they influence important physical and chemical properties, such as diffusion, hardness, catalytic activity and phase stability. Increased understanding of point defects enables us to tailor the defect-related properties to the application at hand. LÄS MER
7. Rendered rainscreen walls - cavity ventilation, ventilation drying and moisture-induced cladding deformation
Sammanfattning : Over the past five years, moisture damages in external walls of wood frame structure and rendering on insulation as a cladding has been a widely debated subject which has received a lot of attention. In the light of this, the interest in an alternative construction method where rendering is applied on boards instead of insulation has increased. LÄS MER
8. Ventilation and window opening in schools, Experiments and Analysis
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to study the application of ventilation in schools buildings. A number of studies of the application of different forms of ventilation are presented. The main part of the thesis focuses on window opening in a classroom. Analytical models for calculation of the air change caused by window airing are proposed. LÄS MER
9. Estimation and Inference for Quantile Regression of Longitudinal Data : With Applications in Biostatistics
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers dealing with estimation and inference for quantile regression of longitudinal data, with an emphasis on nonlinear models. The first paper extends the idea of quantile regression estimation from the case of cross-sectional data with independent errors to the case of linear or nonlinear longitudinal data with dependent errors, using a weighted estimator. 10. Mechanistic investigations of chemical reactions on 2D MXenes and metal surfaces from first-principles
Sammanfattning : Chemical reactions on surfaces play a central role both for our daily life and industrial purposes, including the storage and release of energy, as well as the formation of new materials. To achieve high efficiency, catalysis lies in the heart of chemical reactions as it plays a critical role in accelerating the chemical transformation to target products. LÄS MER
