11. Smad signaling in hematopoietic stem cell biology
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are primitive tissue-specific somatic stem cells, responsible for the maintenance and replenishment of the bone marrow (BM) and subsequently the entire blood system. The never-ending ability to differentiate into all the mature hematopoietic lineages makes these HSCs attractive candidates for use in future regenerative medicine. LÄS MER
12. Inhibition of PDGF receptor signaling in tumor stroma : Effects on interstitial hypertension, drug uptake and therapeutic response
Sammanfattning : The role of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in malignancies involves both autocrine and paracrine stimulation of cells within the tumor. The interstitial fluid pressure (IFP) is one of the forces that govern the transvascular flow of fluids. LÄS MER
13. Modeling Biochemical Network Involved in Striatal Dopamine Signaling
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I studied the molecular integration of reward-learning related neuromodulatory inputs by striatal medium-sized projection neurons (MSNs) using mass-action kinetic modeling. It is known that, in reward learning, an unexpected reward results in transient elevation in dopamine (peak) whereas omission of an expected reward leads to transient dopamine decrease (dip). 14. Heparan sulfate dependent cell signaling and associated pathophysiology : Implications in tumorigenesis and embryogenesis
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) consist of a protein core to which several linear, negatively charged heparan sulfate (HS) chains are covalently attached. HSPGs are expressed on the cell surface and in the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) where they have diverse biological functions, for example co-receptor functions. LÄS MER
15. Effects of Francisella tularensis infection on macrophage intracellular signaling
Sammanfattning : Microbes contain a number of structural components, also known as pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMP), which can be recognized by the host defense system. The PAMP serve as ligands for Toll-like receptors (TLR) expressed on phagocytic cells. LÄS MER
