16. HOST EPIGENETIC REGULATOR BMI1 AND VIRAL FIBER PROTEIN FOR EQUILIBRIUM BETWEEN ADENOVIRUS AND HOST
Sammanfattning : Human adenoviruses (Ads) are broadly used in cancer gene therapy, vaccine development and gene delivery. The modified Ad5 or Ad2 viruses have been successfully used as oncolytic agents in pre-clinical studies. However they could not be translated into clinic utility due to a number of limitations including inefficient Ad spread among tumor cells. LÄS MER
17. The role of 5'-nucleotidases and deoxynucleoside kinases in responses to nucleoside analogues
Sammanfattning : The efficacy of nucleoside analogues (NAs) in treating several hematological malignancies, solid tumors and viral infections is limited primarily by side-effects and the development of drug resistance. The aims of the present thesis were to elucidate mechanism(s) involved in tissue-specific toxicity associated with NA therapy, as well as the mechanisms underlying resistance to these drugs. LÄS MER
18. Mechanisms determining efficacy of tyrosine kinase-targeting anti-cancer drugs
Sammanfattning : The expanding field of cancer research and the introduction of multiple molecular biology techniques have significantly improved cancer drug discovery, presented new drugs, including tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and thereby gave new hope to the cancer patients and their oncologists. Using this knowledge it is now becoming increasingly possible to determine outcome of malignant disease more accurately, to estimate response to specific therapies and to get closer to the ideal of personalized targeted therapy adjusted to each patient, and to the specific cancer type and its unique genetic profile. 19. Proteomic analysis of DNA damage induced stress signaling with focus on p53 : S100A6 regulation, function and potential as biomarker in lung cancer and as a novel therapeutic target
Sammanfattning : In this thesis powerful proteomics methods were used to reveal novel proteins involved in the cellular response to DNA damaging treatment. The goal was to find proteins with potential as biomarkers for prediction of cancer prognosis and response to cancer therapy, but also to find potential novel targets of cancer therapy. LÄS MER
20. New pathogenic mechanisms in diabetic wound healing
Sammanfattning : Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) represent one of the most feared and invalidating complication of diabetes with high financial pressure for the healthcare system. For the moment there is no specific therapy available and it has become a priority to develop novel rational therapeutic strategies based on new pathophysiological mechanisms. LÄS MER
