  1. 6. Structural Growth in Mountain Birch, Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii

    Författare :Christina Borg; Brita Svensson; Staffan Karlsson; Seppo Neuvonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have studied long shoot performance in the monoecious, deciduous tree Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Life History Strategies in Linnaea borealis

    Författare :Mikael Niva; Brita M. Svensson; P. Staffan Karlsson; Ørjan Totland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Linnaea borealis; apex removal; apical dominance; clonal plant; hand pollination; matrix modelling; plant foraging; resorption efficiency; resorption proficiency; resource heterogeneity; shoot dynamics; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : About 70% of the plant species in the temperate zone are characterised by clonal growth, clonal species are also in majority in the Arctic and Subarctic where they affect the structure and composition of the vegetation. It is therefore of great importance to increase our knowledge about clonal plants and their growth and life histories. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Molecular analysis of growth cessation and dormancy in hybrid aspen

    Författare :Szymon Tylewicz; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Perennial plants such as trees living in temperate zones experience extreme changes in temperature during summers and winters. In order to survive, shoot apical and cambial meristem undergo a transition from active growth to dormant state, well in advance of winter onset. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Systemic fungal diseases in natural plant populations

    Författare :Anders Wennström; Lars Ericson; Peter G. Ayres; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemic diseases; rust; smut; Puccinia minussensis; Lactuca sibirica; Puccinia pulsatillae; Pulsatilla pratensis; lateral growth; abiotic factors; disease transmission; Svampsjukdomar hos växter;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to study interactions between systemic fungal diseases and perennial plants. Using the systemic rust Puccinia minussensis on the host plant Lactuca sibirica, and the rust Puccinia pulsatillae on the host plant Pulsatilla pratensis, this thesis focused on: (i) the effects of systemic diseases on their hosts (ii) host and pathogen responses to abiotic factors, (iii) the importance of life history strategies for understanding host-pathogen interactions, and (iv) the evolutionary consequences of living in close associations. 5. 10. Functional analyses of growth and development in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha

    Författare :Anja Billhardt; D. Magnus Eklund; Marcel Quint; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Land plant evolution; Bryophytes; Marchantia polymorpha; Dormancy; Circadian clock;

    Sammanfattning : Land plants developed from a freshwater charophycean algae about 500 million years ago. Today, they consist of two main clades, the vascular plants and the non-vascular bryophytes including hornworts, liverworts and mosses. LÄS MER
