  2. 7. Heparin-binding protein and organ failure in critical illness

    Författare :Jonas Tydén; Joakim Johansson; Magnus Hultin; Jakob Walldén; Sören Berg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heparin-binding protein; Critical care; Shock; Acute respiratory distress syndrome; Acute kidney injury; Ventilator induced lung injury; Renal clearance; Anaesthesiology; anestesiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: For patients severely ill enough to require care in an intensive care unit (ICU), both the disease itself (e.g. bacteria in the blood in sepsis or fractures after trauma) and effects of the immune system can cause circulatory, pulmonary, or renal dysfunction. Leukocytes play a dominant role in the immune system. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Effect of shock wave therapy on longitudinal bone growth and growth plate cartilage

    Författare :Sowmya Ramesh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the potential for radial shock wave treatment (rSWT) to regulate growth plate chondrogenesis and longitudinal bone growth. It was based on the hypothesis that the effects are dose-dependent in a bimodal response pattern where low-energy rSWT will increase chondrocyte proliferation/hypertrophy, and thereby bone growth, while high frequency/energy rSWT will induce chondrocyte apoptosis and thereby, premature growth plate closure. 4. 9. Pathogenesis and immunotherapy of streptococcal septicemia and shock

    Författare :Nahla Ihendyane; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Streptococcus; Cytokines; Superantigens; Sepsis; Inflammation; IVIG;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococei have been recognized as important causes of severe sepsis. Increased frequencies of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome caused by group A streptococcus (GAS) have been noted worldwide during the last 15 years. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Antibacterial Effect and Inflammatory Response in Relation to Antibiotic Treatment of Sepsis

    Författare :Paul Skorup; Jan Sjölin; Miklós Lipcsey; Kristoffer Strålin; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis defines as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. The importance of early administration of antibiotics in septic shock is undisputed, but the optimal antibiotic choice remains uncertain. LÄS MER
