  1. 1. Controlling the Roll Responses of Volume Carriers

    Författare :Carl-Johan Söder; Anders Rosén; Jan De Kat; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :PCTC; parametric roll; roll response; roll damping; rudder control; aerodynamic roll damping; roll mitigation; racking; Ikeda’s method; CFD; model tests; Full-scale tests; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Modern volume carriers such as container vessels, cruise ships and Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC’s) have become more vulnerable to critical roll responses as built in margins have been traded against increased transport efficiency. The research presented in this doctoral thesis aims at enhancing the predictability and control of these critical roll responses. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Controlling the Roll Responses of PCTC's

    Författare :Carl-Johan Söder; Jakob Kuttenkeuler; Dominic Hudson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PCTC; parametric roll; roll response; roll damping; rudder control; roll mitigation; racking;

    Sammanfattning : Modern Panamax Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) have become more vulnerable to critical roll responses as built in margins have been traded against increased transport efficiency. The research presented in this licentiate thesis aims at enhancing the predictability and control of these critical roll responses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Probabilistic Assessment of the Risk of Cargo Shifting Onboard Ships in Waves

    Författare :Anna Ryrfeldt; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :ship roll; cargo shifting; probabilistic model; waves; ship dynamics; risk;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is the result of work within the research project "Probabilistic Models for Ship Safety in Rough Seas". One major danger in sea transportation is the shifting of cargo. The aim of the project has been to develop a methodology for assessing the risk of cargo shifting as well as performing some case studies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Indirect System Identification for Unknown Input Problems : With Applications to Ships

    Författare :Jonas Linder; Martin Enqvist; Fredrik Gustafsson; Alexandre Sanfelice Bazanella; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; System identification; Model structure; Unknown inputs; Indirect input measurements; Physical models; Instrumental variable; Closed loop; Graybox model; Identifiability; Ship; Marine vessel; Operational safety; Inertial measurement unit;

    Sammanfattning : System identification is used in engineering sciences to build mathematical models from data. A common issue in system identification problems is that the true inputs to the system are not fully known. In this thesis, existing approaches to unknown input problems are classified and some of their properties are analyzed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Towards 6 Degrees of Freedom Seakeeping Simulations Using a Fully Nonlinear Potential Flow Method

    Författare :Francesco Coslovich; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ship Motions; Fully Nonlinear Potential Flow; Seakeeping; Boundary Element Method; Added Resistance;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, the International Maritime Organization introduced a new set of rules in order to try to reduce emissions of ships by improving their efficiency. To assess the energy efficiency of a new ship, the regulations require to estimate the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), which represent the amount of Carbon Dioxide produced per mile in relation to the amount of cargo carried, and verify that it is smaller than a prescribed value.
