11. The impact of forest on pest damage, pollinators and pollination services in an Ethiopian agricultural landscape
Sammanfattning : The distribution of wild biodiversity in agroecosystems affect crop performance and yield in various ways. In this thesis I have studied the impact of wild biodiversity, in terms of trees and forest structures, on crop pests, pollinators and the pollination services provided in a heterogeneous landscape in southwestern Ethiopia. 12. Root-knot nematodes and coffee in Nicaragua : management systems, species identification and genetic diversity
Sammanfattning : The coffee production is affected by several limiting factors such as parasitic nematodes. Plant-parasitic nematodes have a substantial economic impact on coffee production in most countries and they are regarded as one of the major limiting factors in coffee production and worldwide coffee losses have been estimated to about 15%. 13. Host plant choice, habitat selection, dispersal ability and population structure of a threatened butterfly, Lopinga achine
Sammanfattning : Host plant choice, habitat selection and dispersal ability of the red-listed butterfly Lopinga achine were studied in partly open woodland in the province of Östergötland. Females preferred to oviposit near Carex montana, although they did not attach their eggs to any plant. LÄS MER
14. Resistance and recolonization of bryophyte assemblages following disturbances : - detecting patterns and exploring mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Disturbances are ubiquitous features of most northern forest ecosystems. The subsequent response of plant assemblages on both short (resistance or not) and long term (recolonization or not) will depend on a number of factors operating at several spatial scales. LÄS MER
15. Temporal variation and phytotoxicity of Batatasin-III produced by Empetrum hermaphroditum
Sammanfattning : In northern Sweden, the clonal dwarf shrub Empetrum hermaphroditum Hagerup exerts strong inhibitory effects on other plant species. These inhibitory effects may, at least in part, be attributed to the high production of the secondary metabolite, batatasin-III, which is released from leaves and transported to the soil by rain (throughfall) and snowmelt.
