  1. 1. The relationship between climate, disease and coffee yield: optimizing management for smallholder farmers

    Författare :Biruk Ayalew Nurihun; Ayco J. M. Tack; Kristoffer Hylander; Ivette Perfecto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Agroforestry; Arabica coffee; climate change; fungal disease; host-hyperparasite interaction; insect pest; minimum temperature and maximum temperature; shade cover; shade tree species; smallholder farmers; yield; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change and diseases are threatening global crop production. Agroforestry systems, which are characterized by complex multispecies interactions, are considered to provide nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation and pest and disease regulation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. TERMINAL FLOWER2, the Arabidopsis HETEROCHROMATIN PROTEIN1 Homolog, and its Involvement in Plant Development

    Författare :Katarina Landberg; Annika Sundås Larsson; Peter Engström; Ove Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; Arabidopsis; HETEROCHROMATIN PROTEIN1; flowering; meristem; auxin; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the characterization of the Arabidopsis thaliana mutant terminal flower2 (tfl2), the cloning of the corresponding gene, and the analysis of TFL2 function in plant development. The tfl2 mutant is pleiotropic, exhibiting early floral induction in both long and short day conditions, a terminating inflorescence and dwarfing. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The impact of forest on pest damage, pollinators and pollination services in an Ethiopian agricultural landscape

    Författare :Ulrika Samnegård; Kristoffer Hylander; Peter Hambäck; Sileshi Nemomissa; Jaboury Ghazoul; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agroforestry; Apoidea; Coffea arabica; crop pests; Ethiopia; forest cover; landscape ecology; moist afromontane forests; pollination; species composition; tropical agriculture; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The distribution of wild biodiversity in agroecosystems affect crop performance and yield in various ways. In this thesis I have studied the impact of wild biodiversity, in terms of trees and forest structures, on crop pests, pollinators and the pollination services provided in a heterogeneous landscape in southwestern Ethiopia. 4. 4. Effects of drought on boreal forest understory species

    Författare :Irena A. Koelemeijer; Kristoffer Hylander; Johan Asplund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity conservation; boreal forests; bryophytes; canopy cover; climate change; drought; extreme climatic events; forest management; forest understory; fungi; lichens; plants; rainout shelter; soil communities; soil moisture; transplant experiment; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Extreme climatic events, such as droughts, can have large effects on biodiversity. Drought effects in forest understories are variable over small spatial scales and can be exacerbated, or buffered, by the local vegetation structure, distance to forest edges, hydrology, and soil characteristics. 5. 5. Plant Population Dynamics of Dodonaea angustifolia and Olea europaea ssp. cuspidata in Dry Afromontane Forests of Ethiopia

    Författare :Tesfaye Bekele; Ingvar Backéus; Karin Bengtsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Demography; Dodonaea angustifolia; Elasticity; Establishment; Germination; Natural regeneration; Olea europaea ssp. cuspidata; Population structure; Recruitment; Seed bank; Survival; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Human disturbance has led to excessive deforestation and to a very limited forest cover in the Afromontane zone of Ethiopia, which forms a large part of the country. Thus urgent conservation measures are required to ameliorate the situation. LÄS MER
