  1. 1. Circadian Rhythms in Moth Sex Pheromone Communication

    Författare :Germund von Wowern; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physiology of invertebrates; växtparasitologi; Entomologi; plant parasitology; Entomology; Ecology; Ekologi; locomotor activity; social synchronisation; PDH; corazonin; PBAN; pheromone response; sex phermone; Lepidoptera; Ryggradslösa djurs fysiologi; calling behaviour; circadian rhythm;

    Sammanfattning : Sex pheromone communication and related physiological processes are regulated by circadian clock mechanisms in many moth species. This thesis includes studies of circadian rhythms in sexually relevant behaviours and communication in the Egyptian cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis, the turnip moth Agrotis segetum, the Indian meal moth Plodia interpunctella and the Mediterranean flour moth Ephestia kuehniella. 2. 2. Male moth behaviour and perception in pheromone plumes

    Författare :Peter Valeur; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; Grapholita molesta; Noctuidae; Lepidoptera; Tortricidae; behaviour; electrophysiology; single cell; flight tunnel; sex pheromone; wind tunnel; radar; flight; pre-exposure; mechanisms of mating disruption; Agrotis segetum; choice test;

    Sammanfattning : Behaviour of male moths and electrophysiological responses of male pheromone-specific olfactory receptor neurones were studied in two model species, the oriental fruit moth Grapholita molesta and the turnip moth Agrotis segetum. The studies were aimed at elucidating the relative importance of different mating disruption mechanisms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Behaviour of Pine Sawflies in Relation to Pheromone-Based Pest Management

    Författare :Fredrik Östrand; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal ecology; effective sampling area; mark-release-recapture; climate; longevity; sampling range; Symphyta; Hymenoptera; monitoring; dispersal; polyandry; mating disruption; integrated pest management; behaviour; sex pheromone; Neodiprion sertifer; Diprionidae; Djurekologi; Zoology; Zoologi; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Pine sawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) are severe pine defoliators. This thesis investigated sawfly behaviour related to the use of pheromones in integrated pest management, including monitoring with pheromone traps and mating disruption. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Chiral building blocks for synthesis of pine sawfly sex pheromones Enantioselective Lipase Catalysed Acylations and Esterifications of Primary Alcohols and Acids and Synthesis of the Sex Pheromone of the Pine Sawfly Microdiprion pallipes

    Författare :Ba-Vu Nguyen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :lipase; Pseudomonas cepacia; Candida rugosa; enantioselective; enantiomeric ratio; primary 2-methylalcohol; substituted-methylcarboxylic acid; pine sawfly; Microdiprion pallipes; sex pheromone; 3; 7; 11-trimethyl-2-tridecanol; stereoisomer;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of new methods for thepreparation of enantiomerically pure methyl branched alkylcompounds and their use as building blocks in the synthesis ofstereoisomerically pure pheromones of pine sawflies.The high regioselectivity, enantioselectivity and activityof lipases in organic solvent in conjunction withenvironmentally compatible reaction conditions have madelipase-catalysed synthesis an attractive alternative toconventional synthetic methods in organic chemistry. 5. 5. Insights into the Evolution of Moth Pheromone Communication: Lessons from the European Corn Borer

    Författare :Jean-Marc Lassance; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biosynthetic enzymes; evolution; Ostrinia nubilalis; mate choice; mate finding; olfaction; biosynthesis; speciation; moth; pheromone; olfactory receptors.;

    Sammanfattning : Chemical communication by means of sex pheromones is central to the mating systems of a wide range of organisms. Because reproductive isolation is often based on pheromone differences, understanding how pheromones diverge is necessary for a complete comprehension of the speciation process. LÄS MER
