  1. 1. Ozonation as sewage effluent treatment : toxicological effects in adult and embryonic zebrafish, Danio rerio

    Författare :Johannes Pohl; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmaceutical residues are not efficiently removed by current sewage treatment plant (STP) technologies. This allows for the release of pharmaceutical residues into the aquatic environment. Pharmaceuticals and their metabolites are problematic because they are designed to affect biological processes in non-target aquatic species. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Analytical method development for ultra-trace determination of human pharmaceuticals in aqueous samples. Assessing the performance of a sewage treatment plant

    Författare :Saioa Zorita; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction; Sample preparation; solid-phase extraction; membrane extraction; human pharmaceuticals; sewage treatment plant; steroid hormones;

    Sammanfattning : Research focus in environmental pollution has recently been extended from more classical environmental pollutants such as PCBs or pesticides to pharmaceuticals and steroid hormones, which are designed to be biologically active and enter the environment primarily through regular domestic use. Consequently, it is important to monitor these substances concentrations in the effluents of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and in the environment in order to evaluate their associated risks. 3. 3. Improvement of Wastewater Sludge Digestion

    Författare :Michael Recktenwald; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anaerobic digestion; biogas; cation-binding agents; enzymes; enzymatic activity; extracellular polymeric substances EPS ; industrial scale trials; methanization; municipal sewage; sludge treatment; wastewater treatment plant;

    Sammanfattning : The reduction of sludge volumes for disposal is a topic of high interest for wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) all over the world. Steadily increasing volumes for disposal create an economic, environmental, legislative and technological challenge. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Integrated sewage sludge treatment scenarios – techno-economic analysis on energy and phosphorus recovery

    Författare :Marzieh Bagheri; Elisabeth Wetterlund; Marcus Öhman; Lale Andreas; Roozbeh Feiz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sewage sludge management; techno-economic analysis; phosphorus recovery; thermochemical treatment; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Sewage sludge is a by-product of wastewater treatment that simultaneously gathers contaminants, valuable organic matter, and nutrients. The treatment of the increasing amount of sewage sludge is important from both pollution prevention and resource recovery perspectives as i) large shares of mineral phosphorus, listed as a critical raw material, terminate in the sewage sludge, and ii) energy recovery from sewage sludge can cover the energy-intensive demand of the treatment process. 5. 5. External Growth Control of Baltic Sea Cyanobacteria

    Författare :Anna Zakrisson; Ulf Larsson; Jakob Walve; Elena Gorokhova; Sanna Suikkanen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; cyanobacteria; nitrogen fixation; heterocysts; Aphanizomenon; Nodularia; water treatment; Himmerfjärden; sewage; climate; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the Himmerfjärden Bay a large excess of nitrogen over phosphorus in the discharge from a large sewage treatment plant (STP) has suppressed growth of diazotrophic cyanobacteria in its inner parts. Implementation of nitrogen removal in the STP in 1997 drastically reduced nitrogen load and triggered growth of diazotrophs, mainly Aphanizomenon sp. LÄS MER
