  1. 1. Amyloid β-protein, Cystatin C and Cathepsin B as Biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease

    Författare :Johan Sundelöf; Lars Lannfelt; Lena Kilander; Hans Basun; Johan Sundstrom; Laura Fratiglioni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer´s disease; amyloid β-protein; cystatin C; cathepsin B; biomarkers; risk factors; epidemiology; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : It is suggested that Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is caused by an imbalance between production, degradation and clearance of the amyloid-β (Aβ) protein. This imbalance leads to aggregation of Aβ and tau proteins and neurodegeneration in the brain. LÄS MER

  2. 2. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Författare :Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 3. 3. Blood pressure, renal functional and structural changes, in normal and preeclamptic pregnancy

    Författare :Helena Strevens; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; renal biopsy; renal function; pregnancy; preeclampsia; physiology; parity; endotheliosis; cystatin C; Blood pressure; BMI; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : The kidneys play a pivotal role in the adaptive physiology of the pregnant woman, presenting some changes at term similar to the changes found in preeclampsia – a state of increased risk of fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The aim of these investigations was to explore possible similarities in blood pressure regulation, renal function and structure in normal term and preeclamptic pregnancy, to ascertain whether both conditions in fact are different degrees of an adaptive process in reaction to pregnancy. 4. 4. The Kidney in Different Stages of the Cardiovascular Continuum

    Författare :Elisabet Nerpin; Johan Ärnlöv; Erik Ingelsson; Ulf Riserus; Jan Östergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; chronic kidney disease; cystatin C; glomerular filtration rate; albuminuria; euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp; insulin sensitivity; inflammation; oxidative stress; endothelial dysfunction and left ventricular dysfunction; Medicin; Medicine; Nedsatt njurfunktion; insulinresistens; oxidativ stress och utvecklingen av hjärt-kärlsjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The complex, interaction between the kidney and the cardiovascular system is incompletely understood, particularly at the early stages of the cardiovascular continuum. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Homocysteine and Coronary Artery Disease With special Reference to Biochemical Effects Of Vitamin Therapy

    Författare :Torfi Jonasson; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; pyridoxine.; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; inflammation; homocysteine; endothelial function; folate; F2-isoprostanes; cystatine C; Acut coronary syndrome; cardiovascular disease; asymmetric dimethylarginine; cobalamine;

    Sammanfattning : An elevated plasma level of homocysteine has been suggested as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The objectives of this thesis were to study the influence of renal function on homocysteine levels in patients with coronary artery disease and to explore the association of elevated plasma levels of homocysteine to oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction.
